The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados [CTUSAB] join with Barbadians at home, within the diaspora and the global community, in paying tribute to the life of National Hero, the late Right Excellent, Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers.

Barbados has lost a world-renowned cricketing icon, legend and anambassador extra-ordinaire. The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers was a symbol of Barbadian and global excellence. By his actions on and off the field, he identified with our Nation’s motto – ‘Pride and Industry’ The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers will long be remembered for his passion and love for the game of cricket, his memorable and lasting achievements on the field of play; but above all, his love for country and people.

His publicly expressed comment, that he placed country and team first, before self, is one that should resonate with all Barbadians, now and in the future. Workers, employers and all others present and yet to come can model his examples of perseverance and commitment to excellence as a cricketing hero on and off the field of play. Sir Gary, as he was affectionately called, lived a life doing credit to his Nation Barbados, wherever he journeyed to.
