Almost 200 Attend Disney Cruise Recruitment Session

Close to 200 persons attended the recently held information session on employment opportunities with Disney Cruise Line, highlighting strong national interest in overseas job opportunities and career advancement.

The session, which was hosted as a collaborative effort between the Barbados Employment and Career Counselling Service (BECCS) and Meridian Recruitment Agency, provided participants with key information on working aboard cruise ships.

Acting Director of BECCS, Moreen Bowen, said the initiative forms part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to connect Barbadians with meaningful employment opportunities locally and abroad.

“This is just another outreach, another mechanism by which we can reach Barbadians and assist those who are looking for employment opportunities,” Ms. Bowen stated.

She explained that the session was designed to sensitise persons about life on a cruise ship, particularly with Disney Cruise Line, while outlining the pathway to employment.

Ms. Bowen added that the strong response reflects not only the appeal of the Disney brand, but also the growing interest among Barbadians in exploring new career opportunities.

“There are persons seeking upward mobility…and clearly Disney is a very popular brand, so the response has been really good,” she said.

Employment Officer, Shanee Small-Harris, highlighted that Barbadians continue to pursue overseas employment opportunities across a wide range of sectors.

“Barbadians are seeking, primarily in the USA, … opportunities in teaching, hospitality, agriculture, and other areas,” she said, noting that applicants typically range in age from 18 to 55.

While Disney Cruise Line has not yet finalised the number of recruits, positions are expected to include roles in food and beverage, housekeeping, and culinary services.

Shortlisted applicants are expected to be invited to interviews scheduled for mid-June, with recruitment ongoing for the latter part of the 2026 season.

Individuals who were unable to attend the session are encouraged to look out for the official application window, so they still have an opportunity to apply online.

BECCS continues to support job seekers through a range of services, including résumé writing, interview preparation, and assistance with overseas employment requirements.

“We offer résumé writing and interview techniques workshops…to ensure that when you go through this process, you are able to get your foot in the door,” Ms. Bowen explained.

Ms. Small-Harris added that successful applicants benefit from additional support, including assistance with visa applications and free medical examinations. “We assist persons with their visa application process…and provide free medical examinations to all successful candidates,” she said.

BECCS also underscored the importance of partnerships in expanding opportunities for Barbadians, noting its collaboration with international agencies and overseas offices in Miami and Toronto to source employment opportunities.  (PR/GIS)
