Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, said Government stands ready to assist Jamaica once the all-clear is given following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
He gave this assurance yesterday while addressing the 20th Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank/Inter-American Bank LAC Debt Group 2025 Caribbean Debt Forum held at the Hilton Barbados Resort.
Mr. Straughn said that recovery after a disaster was not an easy exercise and stressed that the mobilisation effort of rebuilding and assisting the Government and people of Jamaica would commence after the all-clear is given.
“As we have done with every disaster that has come to the region, the Government of Barbados will lend the appropriate assistance…. And, therefore, all institutions must have flexibility to ensure that the response can be delivered as quickly as possible.
“We are mobilising as we speak; we are watching and monitoring and as soon as the all-clear is given, Barbados and the region stands ready to lend whatever support that we can to the people of Jamaica, with respect to the relief efforts that will come. What we do in the Caribbean region, what we do within the context of Latin America is to provide immediate relief as soon as the all-clear is given, so that the mobilisation effort for rebuilding and assisting our brothers and sisters in Jamaica, would be most important…,” Minister Straughn stated.
